[tex] a^2 + b^2 = c^2 [/tex]

[tex] 2^2 + 4^2 = 5^2 [/tex]

[tex] 4 + 16 = 25 [/tex]

[tex] 20 = 25 [/tex]

Since 20 = 25 is clearly a false statement, the three side lengths 2 ft, 4 ft, and 5 ft do not form a right triangle.
