x/y= 5/7

x+y=372

x=5/7y

5/7y+y=372

12/7y=372

y = 372(7/12)= 217

The given numbers are in the ratio [tex] 5:7 [/tex]. Let the numbers be [tex] 5x [/tex] and [tex] 7x [/tex], where [tex] x [/tex] is a real number.

The sum of the numbers is [tex] 5x+7x=372 [/tex].

Solve for x,

[tex] 12x=372\\
x= \frac{372}{12}\\
x=31 [/tex].

Therefore, the numbers are,

[tex] 5*31,7*31 [/tex] or the numbers are [tex] 155,217 [/tex].
