In the 1950s, people started to have the mindset that more stuff= a good life, they would buy cars, a nice house, machines to do chores, tvs, radios, and clothes because after WW2, the US's economy grew and prospered because of WW2, so lots of people had money, not just the top 1%, the middle class grew, wages were higher, and people were eager to spend.
