What are Meninges and how do they protect the brain?

The meninges are the tissues that cover and protect the brain and spinal cord. The meninges have the pia mater that is close to the brain, the spider web-like middle layer is called arachnoid mater, and the outermost and toughest layer is called the dura mater. It acts like a cushion for the brain, it sends nutrients to the brain and removes toxins from the brain.
