Context clues are details that help a reader understand later parts of a passage or sentence.

Ex. The corgi, who had been rummaging in the garbage, smelled nasty.

If we are trying to find out what the word "nasty" means, the context clue in this sentence is "rummaging in the garbage". Garbage has a bad smell to it, a very unpleasant smell. Therefore nasty means unpleasant.
