In older adults, the amygdala shows diminishing activity in response to negative events. The amygdala is an organ in the human being in charge of moderating emotions, reacting to negative or positive stimuli. Several studies indicate that the older the amygdala activity decreases with negative stimuli, that is, the negative emotions are perceived with less intensity.
