The right of self-determination
The right of self-determination is a key feature of international law now -- though it wasn't always that way. Woodrow Wilson's 14 Points championed the concept of self-determination for peoples in planning for how things would be settled after World War I. The United Nations (formed after World War II) included the principle of self-determination in its Charter (its foundational document).
